BMW to Release 1-Series M in 2011
If you’ve always wanted to own a high performance BMW but couldn’t afford the price tag there may be good news. BMW has confirmed that they will be releasing a high performance M version of the 1-Series coupe. The 135i M, as it will be called, will debut sometime in 2011.
“In an interview with German Web site auto-news.de, M GmbH boss Kay Segler confirmed that BMW will launch an M variant of the 135i coupe,” writes Edmunds Inside Line. “Segler said it will not be called M1, since the name has already been used on the limited-edition, Giugiaro-penned midengine sports car that BMW sold from 1978 to 1981.”
The new 1-Series M will likely come with a more powerful version of the 3.0 liter 300 horsepower turbocharged engine that is found in the 2011 1-Series. Exact numbers havn’t been released, however it is thought that the new M’s inline-six will produce anywhere between 306 hp and 350 hp. Unfortunately for all of us here in the U.S. BMW has yet to state if it has plans on ever bringing the 135i to the states.
