BMW Releases More on Electric Vehicle Plans
BMW is working on an all-new electric vehicle, called the Megacity, that will be one of the first entirely electric cars to hit the market. BMW has said they are designing and building the car from the ground up in order to optimize the electric vehicle platform. They also want to make sure the car is more sleek and sporty than current fuel efficient cars like the Prius and Leaf.
The Megacity, which BMW has scheduled to release sometime in 2013, will be made of much more lightweight carbon fiber materials to maximize the driving range. It will be the first mass produced vehicle with a passenger cell made entirely of high-strength and light-weight Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic, or CFRP. The new architecture will also allow for a new, more flexible and more efficient production process.
More details about the car, such as how far it will travel on one charge, have not yet been released. Still, we’re very excited for the future knowing that BMW has this one in the works.
